Cloudflare for Magento
Cloudflare for Magento & Adobe Commerce — WAF, API and checkout protection
Who this is for
- Magento Open Source & Adobe Commerce stores
- High-value, high-traffic e-commerce
- Stores with custom GraphQL / REST integrations
- Teams preparing for drops, sales or Black Friday
Capabilities
What Cloudflare covers for a Magento store
A complete edge layer for Adobe Commerce — security, performance and abuse control — configured by one specialist around your real flows.
WAF for Magento
Managed OWASP rules plus custom rules tuned for Magento and Adobe Commerce paths — admin, checkout, REST and GraphQL — rolled out log, then challenge, then block.
Admin & login protection
Lock down /admin, block brute-force and credential stuffing, and put Zero Trust or rate limiting in front of the back office without slowing staff down.
GraphQL & REST API protection
Rate limiting, schema-aware rules and bot scoring on /graphql and /rest endpoints so resolver-heavy queries cannot be abused to scrape or overload your store.
DDoS & peak-traffic readiness
Layer 3/4 and Layer 7 protection, Under Attack playbooks and origin lockdown so flash sales, drops and Black Friday do not take Magento down.
Bot & scraping defence
Reduce price and catalogue scraping, fake-account creation and spam orders with SEO-safe bot management that keeps Google and paying customers flowing.
Cache that respects FPC & Varnish
Edge cache rules that complement Magento full-page cache and Varnish for catalogue pages while always bypassing cart, checkout and customer-specific content.
Problems we solve
The Magento issues that bring stores to Cloudflare
Exposed Magento origin
Attackers reach your origin IP directly and bypass Cloudflare. We lock the origin to Cloudflare and harden DNS so the edge is unavoidable.
Admin under brute-force
/admin and customer login are hammered by stuffing and password spraying. We add rate limiting, challenges and optional Zero Trust access.
GraphQL abuse and scraping
Heavy, nested GraphQL queries scrape catalogues and pricing or exhaust resources. We add API rate limits and bot scoring on resolver endpoints.
Cart and checkout served from cache
Customer-specific pages cached at the edge cause wrong totals and broken sessions. We enforce strict bypass for cart, checkout and account.
Store down during peak sales
DDoS or an unplanned traffic spike crushes the origin during a drop. We prepare Under Attack playbooks and rate-limit thresholds in advance.
Spam orders and fake accounts
Automated checkout abuse and fake registrations distort data and cost money. We layer Turnstile and bot rules on the right endpoints.
API protection
How do you protect Magento GraphQL and REST APIs?
Magento exposes powerful GraphQL and REST APIs that storefronts, PWAs and integrations rely on. The same endpoints can be abused: deeply nested or repeated GraphQL queries scrape catalogues and pricing or exhaust resolvers, and unauthenticated REST calls can probe for data.
We put rate limiting, WAF rules and bot scoring in front of /graphql and /rest, set sensible request thresholds, and challenge suspicious clients — while leaving genuine storefront, app and partner traffic untouched.
On your API endpoints
- Rate limiting tuned for GraphQL query cost
- WAF rules on /graphql and /rest paths
- Bot scoring to separate apps from scrapers
- Token / header checks for trusted integrations
Cache strategy
Caching without breaking cart or checkout
Magento already runs full-page cache and often Varnish at the origin. Cloudflare sits in front and complements them — it does not replace them. The edge can cache static assets and safe catalogue responses to cut latency and shield the origin during traffic spikes.
The non-negotiable rule: cart, checkout, customer account and any session-specific content bypass the edge cache, so that — when configured correctly — totals, stock and logged-in state stay correct.
How the cache layers fit
- Edge cache for static assets & safe catalogue pages
- Bypass cart, checkout & /customer paths
- Respect Magento FPC and Varnish at the origin
- Cache rules verified against real store sessions

What is not included
- Magento / Adobe Commerce code or module development

- Anti-fraud / chargeback platform setup
- PCI certification, backups and disaster recovery
When you need this
- Your Magento admin or login is under brute-force pressure
- GraphQL or REST endpoints are being scraped or abused
- Catalogue and pricing are being copied by competitors
- Checkout or stock broke after a Cloudflare change
- You’re preparing for a drop, flash sale or Black Friday
- You want one accountable owner for the edge layer
When Cloudflare is not enough
Cloudflare is one strong layer at the edge. For Magento it does not replace:
- Secure development, code review and timely patching of your application and plugins.
- Backups, disaster recovery and a tested restore process.
- A dedicated anti-fraud, chargeback or payment-risk platform.
- Hosting, database administration and origin server maintenance.
- Full incident response and forensics for large or regulated enterprises.
What Cloudflare can and cannot do
Cloudflare plans
When Cloudflare Business or Enterprise may be needed
Many Magento stores run well on Pro. Higher tiers earn their keep when traffic, attack pressure and checkout-criticality grow.
Cloudflare Pro is often enough when…
- Traffic is moderate and attacks are occasional
- Managed WAF rules and basic rate limiting cover your paths
- Catalogue scraping and spam orders are a nuisance, not a crisis
- You do not yet need a contractual uptime SLA
Business or Enterprise may be needed when…
- You need custom WAF rules and higher rate-limit capacity at scale
- Advanced Bot Management with ML scoring is required
- Frequent or large DDoS attacks demand a stronger posture
- You require a Cloudflare-backed SLA (uptime only via a signed SLA)
- Multi-domain estates or strict checkout protection are in play
