Enterprise & High-Traffic

Cloudflare for enterprise estates and high-traffic sites

Large, multi-domain estates and high-traffic platforms need more than a single zone's settings. We standardise and harden Cloudflare across many domains, ready it for peak events, lock down origins, govern access with RBAC, roll out Zero Trust for your workforce and stream logs to your SIEM.

Who this is for

  • Multi-brand & multi-domain estates
  • High-traffic media, retail & marketplaces
  • Platforms with launches & seasonal peaks
  • Large engineering & security teams

Why this matters

What makes enterprise and high-traffic Cloudflare different

At scale, the hard problems shift from one site's settings to consistency, governance and resilience across a whole estate.

Configuration drifts across domains

When every brand and team manages its own zone, security baselines, TLS and cache rules diverge — and the weakest zone becomes the way in.

Peaks overwhelm the origin

A launch or sale sends a wall of traffic at infrastructure sized for normal load, and the origin falls over just when it matters most.

Origins are reachable directly

If attackers can find and hit your origin IPs, edge protection is bypassed entirely — a common gap on large, long-lived estates.

Too many people, too much access

Broad admin access across many engineers and vendors makes mistakes and unauthorised changes far more likely, with no clear audit trail.

VPNs don't scale to the workforce

Traditional VPNs are slow, flat and hard to govern across a large, distributed team and a growing set of internal tools.

No single view of security events

Without centralised logging, incidents hide in per-zone dashboards and never reach the SIEM, so the SOC sees them late or not at all.

The challenges

The realities of running Cloudflare at scale

Large estates share a common set of pressures. These are the ones we focus on closing.

Multi-domain, multi-zone estates

Dozens or hundreds of domains and zones spread across teams, brands and regions — each with its own DNS, certificates, WAF and cache rules to keep consistent.

High-traffic & peak events

Launches, sales, ticket on-sales and viral spikes drive sudden request volume that has to be absorbed without melting the origin or blocking real users.

Origin protection at scale

A large surface means more ways for traffic to bypass the edge. Origins must be locked down so attackers cannot reach them directly.

Account governance & RBAC

Many engineers, vendors and brands touch the account. Role-based access, scoped permissions and audit logs keep change controlled and traceable.

Zero Trust for a large workforce

Internal tools, admin panels and staging need identity-based access for staff and contractors across the whole organisation, not just one app.

Observability across the estate

Security and operations teams need logs, events and metrics flowing into a SIEM so incidents are visible across every domain, not buried per-zone.

What we implement

The Cloudflare capabilities we configure for enterprise estates

Estate-wide controls that improve resilience, tighten governance and give your teams visibility.

Estate-wide configuration

Consistent DNS, TLS, WAF, cache and security baselines across many zones, managed with rule reuse and templates rather than per-domain drift.

High-traffic & peak readiness

Caching, tiered cache, rate limiting and Under Attack playbooks so launches and seasonal peaks are absorbed at the edge before they reach origin.

Architecture & origin protection

Cloudflare in front of your stack with origin lockdown — authenticated origin pulls, allowlisting and Tunnel — so traffic cannot bypass the edge.

Account RBAC & governance

Scoped roles, least-privilege access, account and zone permissions and audit logs so large teams and vendors can work without over-broad access.

Zero Trust at workforce scale

Cloudflare Access and SSO for internal apps, admin and staging across many teams — a practical VPN alternative with least privilege by default.

Observability & Logpush

Logpush of HTTP, firewall and audit logs to Splunk, Sentinel, Datadog or S3, with dashboards and alerting your SOC can actually act on.

Rate limiting & API protection

Per-route rate limiting, bot management and schema-aware controls to protect login, checkout, partner and internal APIs across the estate.

Managed care & SLA support

Ongoing monitoring, tuning and an escalation path, with defined response targets offered only under a signed service agreement.

How we work

How we roll this out across your estate

Staged and reversible — we standardise and harden across zones without disrupting live services.

  1. 1

    1. Map the estate

We inventory your zones, domains, origins, DNS and certificates, and document who has access to what — so we can see the whole estate, not one site at a time.

  2. 2

    2. Standardise & harden

We bring zones onto consistent security, TLS and cache baselines, lock down origins, and set scoped RBAC roles so access matches responsibility.

  3. 3

    3. Scale for traffic & access

We tune caching, rate limiting and peak-event playbooks for high traffic, and roll out Zero Trust access for internal apps across the workforce.

  4. 4

    4. Observe & operate

We stream logs and audit events to your SIEM, set up alerting, and operate the estate under a managed-care plan with response targets set in your agreement.

Governance & access

Account governance, RBAC and Zero Trust at scale

On a large estate, the people problem is as important as the traffic problem. We set scoped, least-privilege roles and make use of audit logs so changes are traceable across many engineers and vendors. For internal tools, admin panels and staging, we roll out Cloudflare Access and SSO so your whole workforce gets identity-based access — a practical alternative to a flat VPN — without over-broad permissions.
Discuss your estate

What this covers

  • Scoped account & zone roles with least privilege

  • Cloudflare Access & SSO for internal apps
  • Workforce-wide Zero Trust, not just one app

Scope

What is and isn’t included

What is included

  • Multi-domain / multi-zone configuration and standardisation
  • High-traffic caching, rate limiting and peak-event playbooks
  • Origin protection and architecture hardening at scale
  • Account RBAC, scoped roles and audit-log review
  • Zero Trust access for internal apps across the workforce
  • Logpush to your SIEM with dashboards and alerting

What is not included

  • Uptime or availability guarantees outside a signed SLA
  • Hosting, infrastructure or database management
  • Application development or code-level security testing
  • Procurement of Cloudflare Enterprise plans or licensing
  • Legal, regulatory or compliance certification

When you need this

  • You manage many domains or zones across teams and brands
  • A launch, sale or on-sale is driving a high-traffic peak
  • Origins are exposed or reachable directly
  • Too many people have broad access to the account
  • Your SOC needs Cloudflare logs in the SIEM, estate-wide

What Cloudflare does not replace

Cloudflare is a strong edge layer for resilience, governance and visibility at scale, but it is one part of a wider platform. It does not replace:

  • Resilient hosting, capacity planning and disaster recovery
  • Secure development, code review and timely patching
  • Your own change-management and approval processes
  • Full incident response, forensics and on-call rotas
  • An uptime guarantee — that needs a signed SLA

An honest note on scale & uptime

Cloudflare absorbs and mitigates a large share of malicious and peak traffic, hardens origins and improves resilience across a large estate, and we document everything we configure. It does not, on its own, guarantee availability. Defined uptime and response targets are offered only as part of a signed service agreement, and real resilience also depends on your hosting, applications and incident response.

Compliance & regulatory support

Supporting the Cloudflare-side controls behind your compliance

For regulated enterprises working towards ISO 27001, SOC 2, the EU NIS2 directive or DORA, we help implement and evidence the Cloudflare-side controls that map to common control areas.

Vulnerability protection

WAF, managed rules and virtual patching to help reduce exposure to known web vulnerabilities while your teams remediate at the application layer.

Availability & resilience

DDoS mitigation and rate limiting to help keep services available under attack and peak load — supporting availability-focused control areas.

Access control & least privilege

Cloudflare Zero Trust and Access with scoped account RBAC, so access to internal apps and the Cloudflare account follows least-privilege principles.

Encryption in transit

TLS/SSL configuration and HSTS to help enforce strong encryption in transit between visitors and the edge.

Logging & monitoring

Logpush of HTTP, firewall and audit logs to your SIEM, providing evidence for logging, monitoring and audit-trail control areas.

Fraud & abuse controls

Bot management and rate limiting to help reduce automated abuse, credential stuffing and fraud against exposed endpoints.

How we help

  • Configure Cloudflare controls that map to ISO 27001, SOC 2, NIS2 and DORA control areas
  • Document what we configure to help you evidence Cloudflare-side controls
  • Stream audit and security logs to your SIEM for monitoring and audit trails
  • Work alongside your own auditors, GRC team and compliance programme

Where the boundary sits

We support the Cloudflare-configuration aspects only. Each framework spans people, process, hosting, applications and governance well beyond the edge:

  • Formal audits, assessments or certification decisions
  • Risk management, policies and organisational controls
  • Application, hosting and database security
  • Incident-response governance and regulatory reporting

An honest note on compliance

SecureMigrate is an independent Cloudflare consultancy, not an auditor or a certification body, and we hold no certification in any of these frameworks. We help implement and evidence the Cloudflare-side controls relevant to ISO 27001, SOC 2, NIS2 and DORA, but achieving and maintaining compliance is your responsibility. Nothing here is a guarantee of certification or that any framework's requirements will be met — that depends on your wider people, processes, hosting, applications and independent assessment.

Frequently asked questions

Can you manage Cloudflare across many domains and zones?
Yes. Managing large, multi-domain and multi-zone estates is a core focus. We standardise DNS, TLS, WAF and cache baselines across zones, reduce per-domain drift with reusable rules and templates, and set up account-level governance so a large team can work consistently without each brand reinventing its own configuration.
How do you prepare a high-traffic site for peak events?
We tune caching and tiered cache so as much traffic as possible is served at the edge, set rate limiting on sensitive routes, and prepare an Under Attack and escalation playbook ahead of launches, sales or on-sales. The aim is to absorb spikes at the edge before they reach your origin. We help improve resilience, but no provider can guarantee a site never goes offline.
How does Cloudflare protect origins at scale?
We put Cloudflare in front of your stack and lock the origin down so it can only be reached through the edge — using techniques such as authenticated origin pulls, firewall allowlisting of Cloudflare ranges, and Cloudflare Tunnel to avoid exposing public origin IPs at all. On large estates this is often where the biggest gaps are found and closed.
Can you set up role-based access and account governance?
Yes. We configure scoped roles, least-privilege account and zone permissions, and make use of audit logs so changes are traceable. For large teams and external vendors this keeps access matched to responsibility and gives security teams a record of who changed what.
Do you offer uptime guarantees or an SLA?
Defined availability and response targets are only offered as part of a signed service agreement — we do not promise guaranteed uptime informally. Cloudflare absorbs and mitigates a large share of malicious and peak traffic and significantly improves resilience, but real availability also depends on your hosting, applications and incident response.
